Cross training for players usually means a substitute to the normal team training and does not usually involve running. It is useful as it adds variety to conditioning programmes, helps with injured players trying to keep fit or it can help with active rest for players.

Cross training is very much beneficial for heavy players in need of losing weight or aging players in need of extra fitness. It helps to reduce the pressure on the body, as it aids in reducing the amount of weight-bearing exercises on joints and limbs. It also reduces the added pressure the body would be under in normal team training sessions.
Cross training can include any of the following :
• Boxercise
• Cycling
• Cross trainer
• Swimming
• Upper body machine
